Bits & Bobs: Snack Night
Bits & Bobs are my strategies for keeping solo travel as wrench-free as possible.
Snack night has long been a family tradition that I continue to go back to. When I was younger, snack night was a night off from chicken or soup. Now, I make it something to look forward to. When you just don’t feel like cooking, snack night comes to the rescue.
When traveling, I often make my first night in a new place snack night. A quick trip to the market yields plates of snacks with zero cooking required. Tomato, shallot, and caper salad takes about 60 seconds of chopping and a swig of olive oil and vinegar. Make it fancy with some dill, another 10 seconds. Greek yogurt becomes a creamy dip just by adding a sprinkle of pepper and a drip of olive oil. Open up a jar of castelveltrano olives and plate them on a tiny dish. Slice some cheese. Pull apart an endive and baguette for the snack vehicles, and voilà, it’s snack night!
Snack night is best enjoyed in bed with a towel spread out to create a picnic atmosphere. Pictured here is a snack night from a recent trip to Cannes.
